Holiday Road Trip Guide | John Hirsch’s Cambridge Motors

Holiday travel season is in full swing. While the holidays are one of the most joyous times of the year, the road trip it can take to get there isn’t always quite as joyous. We’ve got some tips that are sure make the drive to grandma’s house a little easier for everyone. Keep scrolling for our holiday road trip guide and let us know if we left any of your favorite tips out below!

Gas Apps

Gas prices always seem to spike during the holidays and it can be difficult to know where to get the best deal for gas when driving through a new town. Downloading a smartphone app like GasBuddy helps you look smarter not harder when searching for gas. Simply open the app and it will tell you where the cheapest gas is based on your current location.

Snack Packs

Don’t waste time making a stop every time someone in the car gets hungry. Instead, plan ahead and pack snacks that will keep everyone feeling full and won’t make a mess. Pack them all in one container or give everyone their own small plastic box and let them fill it with whatever snacks they will want for the ride. While you are at it, be sure to back a car trash can for wrappers and a roll of paper towels for spills. Don’t have a car trash can? A cereal storage container will work in a pinch.

The Present Puzzle

When traveling with holiday presents, it can be a hassle to find a place to neatly store them all. You worked hard on wrapping those presents, you don’t want them getting messed up during the drive. Instead, grab a plastic storage tub or two carefully stack all the presents inside. Now you don’t have to worry about your great-aunt’s picture frame getting broken or those bows falling off. Plastic tubs are also a great way to keep gift bags from falling over and spilling out.

Keep Them Entertained

Avoid hearing “Are we there yet?” a million times by making sure the kids have plenty to do for the long road ahead. If your vehicle has an entertainment system, pack the family’s favorite holiday movies for a movie marathon. Coloring and activity books are great and mess free option too. And of course a classic game of the car color or license plate game are a great way to pass the time.
